“Great hotel”
Elisabeth74 - Norway - TripAdvisor
Wonderful hotel in a quiet street close to all the major tourist atractions. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only minus was that all the good restaurants and all nightlife was in an other part of town. Rooftop terrece had beautiful views.

“Excellent service; splendid view!”
TilburgTeacher62 - Tilburg - TripAdvisor
First of all, we greatly appreciated the (complimentary) pick-up service from the airport. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful in advising about where to go and how to get there.
The room was not overly spacious, but offered all the conveniences that may be expected from a hotel in this price range, like minibar and airconditioning.
The hotel's main attraction is the breakfast room on the rooftop terrace, offering a breathtaking view of the Bosphorus and Sea of Marmara and even the Blue Mosque by night. The breakfast buffet is excellent, with a wide choice of foods to please every palate.
Another great perk is the location; only a few minutes' walk from the city's main attractions like the Hippodrome, the Blue Mosque, the Aya Sofiya and the Topkapi Palace.
The type of guests that the Tash Konak Hotel attracts, ensures a pleasant and quiet atmosphere. This charming little hotel is an oasis of proverbial Turkish hospitality in the heart of one of the world's most vibrant cities.

We really felt like home in this old style guesthouse on the edge of Europe. Had a drink at the terrace with the splendid view to the Bosborus and Asia. Dolphins playing between dozens of vessels.Very nice staff - cozy rooms. Lars C.

“Charming hotel”
Skn_na - Bangkok - TripAdvisor
My friends and I decided to stay an extra night in Istanbul after spending a whole week traveling with a tour group around Turkey. We chose Hotel Tashkonak using Tripadvisor.com and we were so impressed with this hotel. Everything from the staff's warm hospitality to the cozy atmosphere of the hotel made a great final impression to remember Turkey by. I would highly recommend this hotel. There are also really interesting shops in the vicinity with prices no different than what you find at the Grand Bazaar. Have a great time exploring Istanbul!

“An oasis in the old city”
Maggie - Ireland - TripAdvisor
We chose this hotel on the basis of TripAdvisor reviews and it more than lived up to our expectations, Really helpful staff and rooms on the small side but comfy and quiet. The upside of not having a bar was the peace and quiet at night... our room looked out over the Blue Mosque and the secluded garden, This area can be an awful tourist trap with variable hotels but this is a real oasis.

“What a great little place!”
Redbaron -Frankfurt - TripAdvisor
I am a frequent business traveller used to the Hiltons and Hyatts of this world and frankly ... they become boring after a while in spite of their quality rooms and international service standards. Therefore, I keep looking out for local special places whenever I get a chance to break away for a few days. I prefer small, locally operated hotels in mixed areas that include residential and local retail and when I'm travelling with my loved one - they have to be romantic too!
Hotel Tashkonak does not only meet all of those criteria perfectly: It is also located in the heart of ancient Istanbul, within the city walls of the former Constantinople, almost in the backyard of the famous Blue Mosque and in walking distance of Topkapi Palace. The sea is in spitting distance and an abundant selection of bars, restaurants and pubs offer great local food as well as international drinks and cooking.
The rooms of Hotel Tashkonak are small but very tidy and the friendliness of its staff is simply unbeatable. Breakfast on the rooftop terasse is a perfect start for a day of sightseeing or shopping. The (European) standard size fridge in the middle of the room takes some getting used to but once you've been shopping in one of the bazaars and come back with bags full of fruit and other perishable delights it becomes very valuable.
At half the price of any mainstream Hotel in downtown Istanbul, you obviously don't get the typical luxurious amenities now standard with all the "global chains" but you do get a memorable stay in a perfect location and a feeling of true belonging. It's worth it anytime if you're looking for a down-to-earth experience of one of the most fascinating cities in the world.

“Turkelicious!”
Coocoopigeon - London - TripAdvisor
A very nice, cosy hotel. Very near to all the local attractions - excellent location. The Blue Mosque and Aya Sophia were only a 5 minute walk away. We found the staff helpful and receptive. The breakfast was varied and plentiful. The plates were not always as well cleaned as they should have been, but this aside, the morning terrace view was breathtaking. Our room was always very clean and well tidied on a daily basis. The bathroom, though small and sparce, was adequately stocked. Towels were changed every day and sheets were immaculately clean. Free hotel internet access was very welcome and convenient. It might be worth noting that though the hotel provides complimentary toiletries, they are quite minimal and may not be sufficient for a longer stay. We were also happy to find an iron was provided, though admittedly, we seemed to be the only ones using it (and were teased frequently as a result)!! There is a mosque literally a footstep away from the hotel, which might be a problem for those not wishing to be awoken early in the morning by the call to prayer. However, on the whole, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel and our trip to Istanbul, and would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to the city. Great value for money. Certainly ideal for girly getaways and small group holidays.

“Loved the Tashkonak”
LimeyVirginia - Virginia - TripAdvisor
The staff are friendly and extremely helpful, and make you feel that they enjoy having you there, as much as you enjoy being there. They will arrange things for you on the spur of the moment, if you decide you suddenly want to go somewhere. After their breakfast, you don't need lunch until late afternoon! And the view from the rooftop garden ranks among one of the highlights of Istanbul! The rooms are very clean and quiet, great location just minutes from the Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia and Topkapi. We met one of their guests who stays there every 6 months. I would highly recommend this hotel.

“Best breakfast view in the world”
Annapolis, Maryland - TripAdvisor
Hate to spoil your surprise when you get to the breakfast room since it was one of our favorite surprises in a wonderful stay at Tashkonak but I have to tell you the view is so spectacular that you will want to carry your camera with you to breakfast. The ocean on one side, the Blue Mosque on the other, the lovely scenes out the windows, the good food, the friendly guests. Wow! We chose the hotel because it said it was close to the ocean and the mosque and there was no doubt that both were within a few steps. (You'll know exactly HOW close when the prayer call is given morning and night.)
The hotel staff helped us arrange side trips to other places in Turkey and good day trips some alone and some with guides within the city. They picked us up from the airport and returned us in time for the two flights we made from Istanbul during our stay. The hotel is clean and neat, good internet connection, excellent food and just all a person would need to have a really good time in an historic (not a sterile modern hotel) spot with lots of local charm. There is a good small grocery store next door (down the hill). Places to eat are all close and on the way to the Blue Mosque
you will pass quite a few as well as shops where you will be tempted to spend your money.Expect to really enoy this hotel and the city and the Turkish people.

“Little Gem”
London - TripAdvisor
We stayed 3 nights at the Tashkonak Hotel. From when we arrived until the time that we left the staff looked after our every need.
After being shown to our lovely clean room over looking the garden (as requested, due to the small mosque across the road from the hotel making a call for pray at 5am every morning) we went downstairs to be sat down and told about all the activities in the area and how to get to / from Tashkonak Hotel to those activities. This was much appreciated as it was our first time in Istanbul.
There was also a free broadband computer for use of all guests which came in very useful. The breakfast had a wide variety of food and was restocked throughout the 3 hour period from 7:30am - 10:30am when it was served. The view from the breakfast room was wonderful and a lovely relaxing way to start the day before venturing out to the sights of Istanbul.
The hotel is very central to the main sights including Topkapi, Hasan Sophie, the Blue mosque and the old city. In addition, it is only a 5 - 10 minute walk to the metro stop, Sultanahmet. Overall, a wonderful stay and if we are ever in Istanbul again we would not hesitate to book in at the Tashkonak.

“Great location, excellent staff”
St. Paul, Minnesota - TripAdvisor
My daughter and I stayed at the Tashkonak for almost a week in March 2008. The staff is excellent, really great. The rooms are a bit small and spartan, and the hotel is located in an older (but quite safe) area that is slowly being redeveloped. The location is terrific,
close to the Blue Mosque, the old city and public transportation. Some of the best staff anywhere. Great breakfast.I'd definitely stay here again (and Turkey is wonderful to visit!).

“Loved the Tashkonak”
Wales - TripAdvisor
Recently returned from a trip to Istanbul and really enjoyed the experience. One of the major plus points was the Tashkonak Hotel. On arrival we found the staff very polite and helpfull. If you stay for more than 3 days there is a free pick up at the airport upon arrival, this is most usefu, as any ardent traveller will confirm arriving in any city can be overwhelming. Hotel about 20 mins from airport in the old part of Istanbul. In close proximity to all parts of the major attractions. The rooms are clean and comfortable and good value. There is a good breakfast bar on the roof top with magical views of the Sea of Marmara and the Asian side of the Bosphorus. Breakfast caters for all tastes and is a nice way to start the day.
So if your looking for a moderately priced hotel in the old quarter of Istanbul that is warm and friendly I suggest you give this a try.

“the cozy hotel”
London - TripAdvisor
I have wonderful memories about Istanbul. I was there with my partner in Nov 2007. We both enjoyed staying at this very nice and cozy hotel. They have got a fantastic view from the top floor terrace. The hotel has a great location. It is easy to get to the most famous places of Istanbul. A surrounding of the hotel is quiet, friendly and relaxing. Also the staff of the hotel is absolutely brilliant. Perfect service!

“Great place, great deal”
Seattle - TripAdvisor
We stayed at Tashkonak for 5 days. The rooms were warm (not a given in Dec) and spotless. The showers were hot and the bathrooms immaculate. We loved the incredible responsiveness of Tashkonak's staff. The small hotel (@30 rooms) has visitors from Turkey and around the world. We felt like we were staying in a relative's home. When we needed a rental car, a young man arrived and delivered a new car in minutes (at a far better price than I had found during my pre-arrival research). When we needed travel advice another friend of the hotel appeared in moments, gave us maps advice and zero pressure only information! The breakfasts were delicious and the view from the rooftop dining room are magical. Our flight out left at 2am. The staff woke us with a call and then called again to check that we had gotten up! They helped us with our bags and stood outside in the cold night until our taxi pulled out of sight. At 2am!!!! We can't recommend this place enough!

“TASHKONAK - a great little hotel”
Ontario - TripAdvisor
My husband and I chose the Hotel Tashkonak as a base while in Istanbul as we wanted to be able to explore on foot. The Tashkonak proved to be
perfect for this as it is minutes away from the Blue Mosque, Aya Sofya, Topkapi Palace. It is about five minutes walk to the tram allowing one to explore further afield such as the Great Bazaar, the Spice Market, Sulaiman and New Mosque, the big public baths,
Rustempasa Mosque (a tiny gem), the bridge across to the Galata tower, and the ferry for trips up the Bosphorus. The room we had was smallish but attractive and more than adequate with twin beds (one of which was not very comfortable, but was changed
the same day I mentioned it at the desk). Both the room and the bathroom (with shower not tub) were very clean. Our room looked out onto a small terraced garden, built against the back wall of the Blue Mosque. It was very quiet except for loud neighbours the first night.
The staff were charming and helpful, and on duty 24/7. The breakfast was a buffet with meats, cheeses, eggs, yogourt, fresh fruit salads, buns, breads and many spreads. It was possible to have breakfast and only need a snack lunch. Perhaps the best thing about breakfast was the rooftop terrace restaurant in which it was served. There was a wonderful view over the city and Marmara sea, and the beginning of the Bosphorus. We enjoyed this both at breakfast, and in the evening when we looked over the lights of the city and the dozens of ships at anchor.
I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND this hotel to any of my friends. If, however, you are only happy in a Hilton or Holiday Inn clone just like "at home" then I suggest that you stay at one of them and leave the Hotel Tashkonak to those of us who travel to experience and enjoy another culture and people.

“Frienliest Staff I've Met”
Perth, Australia - TripAdvisor
I found that Savash and his co - workers at the Tashkonak to be the most helpful guys on my eight month trip through Europe and Africa. Upon the arrival of my girlfriend in Istanbul I realised that I had little room on my motorbike for a lot of excess luggage. The staff at Tashkonak Hotel held all my equipment for three months until a mate in a Land Rover coming up the same route was able to retrieve it for me.
Just a small example of the customer service in this well placed and well priced Istanbul establishment. I'd find it hard to think of a place I could reccomend more highly.

“Everything I read about this little GEM is True!”
Toronto - TripAdvisor
My wife and I stayed at this little gem of a hotel located in a beautiful local neighbourhood with minutes access to most of the oft seen attractions. The Blue Mosque is practically in it's backyard, in fact, it's minarets can be seen from the terrace restaurant while you partake of the decent breakfast offering. I enjoyed my morning coffee from here looking out at the little fishing boats and the large tankers etc, on the marmara sea and the Bhosporous.
The staff were super! Especially Ergin & Savash. They made us feel at home and helped us with their polite & friendly service in every which way they could, advising & making reservations for shows etc. The room was cosy and clean (lots of stairs to climb though). They have serene back patio for quiet reflection and company. We were truly delighted with the location, service and staff. There were several good and inexpensive restaurants within walking distance including the Arasta Bazaar (worth visiting). Istanbul ... a must visit and stay here to get the real feel! I have pictures but for some reason could not include it. Check back later.

“Fine location for Istanbul's must-see”
Langeland - TripAdvisor
We chose Tashkonak after recommendation from friends. And we were not disappointed: efficient and kind staff in a hotel with a qiute and superb location in the old part of Istanbul. A few minutes walk from Blue Mosque, Ana Sophia, Bassilica Cistern and Topcapi Palace.
Nice breakfast in the top-of-the-roof restaurant with excellent view over Bosporus.
The hotel provided pick-up from the airport, and provided free wireless access to internet.
We enjoyed the nearby fine, small restaurants and the lokal Hammam.
We have recommended the hotel to other friends - they have stayed there and were happy with it too.

“Loved this hotel”
Washington DC - TripAdvisor
We loved this hotel. Its very cute and cozy. Its in an old wooden building with old decorations. The breakfast was great, on the roof top. You have options of indoor or outdoor dining, all with great views. The rooms are small, but thats the way they are in most areas. Our room even had a balcony that overlooked the pretty courtyard. The service was great. Since its on a side street, pay attention to getting back. We would definitely recommend this hotel over and over again. We are quite disappointed that we stayed in a different hotel our last night in Istanbul.

“Home away from home TashKonak hotel in Sultanahmet area, june 24-30 2007”
Arizona - TripAdvisor
Our Family of 4 and my brother's family of 3 stayed here for one week. The staff was so friendly and helpful in everyway. They made sure we had rooms across from each other, so the kids could move back
and forth easily. We loved the view from the terrace at breakfast over looking the Marmara Sea. I wish I could remember everyone's name, but everyone there made us feel like we were their own special guest. In the late afternoon we enjoyed tea or a beer in the beautiful garden before heading out to dinner. I asked for a fan, and they went and got me one, they took our phone messages for us and
made sure we got all our details as if we were their family. When we come back to Istanbul we will definitely stay here again. We felt so safe that often times we did not even lock our rooms, we had to remind ourselves to do so. This hotel is located on a quiet street just 10 minutes from all the major sites in Istanbul (Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, shops and museums).
If you stay here venture out for dinner in the opposite direction of the main attractions and you will meet the most interesting and generous people at great resteraunts. One of our favorites being Ayasophia. The shops and the markets are a better price with the same things you will find in the Grand Bazaar and along the main attractions, almost half that of the Grand Bazaar. As you walk to the the Blue mosque area you pass a small bazaar, take your time on your way back for the items are very nice and reasonable priced. And the people are wonderful. The rooms are spotless, we had a refridgerator so we stocked up on the great fruit from the market, as well as water, beer and raki. I recommend this place for families and anyone who wants to be close to everything you want to walk to and yet come back to the quiet in the evening. Thank you to all of you at Tashkonak for making this such a wonderful experience for my family:)

“fantastic view, charming staff”
Bonn - TripAdvisor
I can only repeat what former visitors already have written about the Tashkonak Hotel: It is a place with a very friendly atmosphere, located close to sights like the Aya Sofya and Sultanahmet Mosque, as well as to the next tram station.
The rooms are lovely old style, absolutely clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was decent, but what was best about breakfast was actually the breathtaking view from the fabulous roof terrace. The staff is extraordinarily friendly and helpful and provided excellent service.

“Great Introduction to Turkey”
Terrigal, Australia - TripAdvisor
I stayed here with my two teenage children for four nights before and after Anzac Day 2007. We loved every minute.
Ideally located near the Blue Mosque, this hotel had everything we needed: Reasonable rates for those on a budget, good clean, spacious family rooms, a decent breakfast each morning, access to the internet, transfers to and from the airport, and best of all, fantastic staff.
From storing our bags for a few days while we toured the country, to providing apple tea at the end of a tiring day, nothing was too much trouble. All staff were unfailingly friendly, helpful and had lots of useful advice for seeing this amazing city.
If you want a shiney modern hotel with all bells and whistles, or indeed, access to a lift, then keep scrolling through. But if you are wanting value for money, helpful staff, and decent, clean amenities in a wonderful part of town, then this could be ideal.

“Hotel Tashkonak - a hidden gem in Istanbul”
Atlanta - TripAdvisor
Our stay at the Tashkonak couldn't have been better. The hotel is on a side street in Sultanhamet in Istanbul. Our room was small, but had comfy beds with down comforters, an excellent air conditioner, a room safe and a spotless marble bathroom. The hotel staff went overboard to make sure we had everything we needed and were very helpful with directions, information and extra towels. The rooftop restaurant had a yummy breakfast and closeup views of the Blue Mosque (you should see it at night!!) and the Bosphorus Sea. Beautiful. The decor in the rooms would have been better if we were color blind (pink flowers in the wallpaper and orange bedspreads and drapes - yikes), but it didn't matter. They have a computer in the lobby that you can use for free to check email. If I were to go to Turkey again, I would definitely stay at the Tashkonak.

“Comfortable, Friendly and Perfect Llocation”
Vaancouver Island Canada - TripAdvisor
My wife and I stayed at the Tashkonak for 3 days in mid April, 2007. Our second room floor was spacious, clean and comfortable. The buffet breakfast of juices, meats, cheeses, breads, fresh fruit, eggs, cereals, teas and coffee, and more, on the indoor/outdoor roof terrace with a view on one side of the Blue Mosque and on the other of the Sea of Marmara and
the entrance to the Bosphorous, was a perfect way to start the day.
The friendly and good humoured staff, most of whom spoke English, were always ready to be helpful on any matter, big or small, and generally made us feel as if we were members of their extended family.
Located on a quiet street, around the corner from the Blue Mosque, and within a short walk of the Hippodrome, Hagia Sophia and Topkapi Palace, and about a 15 minute walk to the Grand Bazaar, the Tashkonak is a perfect base for exploring the Sultanahmet District, which was the heart of the Ottoman and Byzantine Empires.

This hotel lives up to the description on its website. The pickup service from the airport was excellent and the staff were waitng to greet me when I arrived at the hotel. My room was very clean and comfortable and overlooked the pleasant terraced garden.
The breakfast room is at the top of the hotel and has a breathtaking view. It is a buffet with plenty to choose from. All the historical sites are just a short walk from the hotel. The manager was always on
hand to answer my many questions on where to go and where to eat. It really did feel more like staying in a home than a hotel.

“Blissful”
London - TripAdvisor
7 of us stayed at this wonderful Tashkonak hotel, 4 adults and 3 kids. The Hotel is a 19th Century Ottoman building, and is quite pretty!
The hotel is perfectly located, just behind the Grand Sultan Ahmet Mosque, and a short walk to all the major attractions and eateries.
The breakfast room offers panoramic views of the Golden Horn, the Bosphorus and the Sea of Marmara. The adjoining terrace gardens offer views of the Galata bridge, the Topkapi palace and the aya Safya.
I'd recommend this hotel to singles, couples AND to those with children!
There were other pretty gardens located near the ground floor which would be cool and pleasant in the hot summer!
The staff were welcoming and friendly, especially Ismail at reception and Khalid, the young lad usually to be found with the other pleasant chap in the breakfast diner area.
The reception area was beautifully furnished and comfortable and chilled out - we enjoyed getting into the hotel in the evenings and chilling on the sofas, watching TV and chatting to the staff and other visitors.
Our two rooms, which were unfortunately on opposite wings were nonetheless nice and clean and nicely furnished - the large family room (306) was fantastic, and the balcony looked across the Sea of Marmara and was awe inspiring! (see photos)
Directly below was a 16th century mosque built by Mimar Sinan himself and a small 16th Century islamic cemetary which gave the whole place an 'Arabia Nights' vibe - Fatima and Taz seemed to think the balcony was a beautiful place which seemed to offer a feeling of tranquility and inner peace, they also seemed to think it was haunted by 'good jinns'! :)
The staff were cool with us coming up and down and visiting each others rooms!
There were scores of channels on the TV and there was internet access at reception - which I didn't use (nothing like getting away from internet and everything else).
The muezzin call to prayer was evident in the early morning, but wasn't loud as you find in other countries - in fact it sounded quite beautiful!
the location was perfect, slap bang next to all the major sites, safe and secure in its location day or night, right beside a general store and the Arasta Bazaar which is a great place to get presents from!
Breakfast was good - cold meats, bread, pastries, boiled eggs and cereal. - except that the Tea wasn't all that, and in my opinion should be offered as Tea Bags. there was also no option for toast so I suppose a small improvement needed there.
If I was to be really fussy there were a couple of complaints;
the Heating in room 202 stopped working and we had to use the AC as a heater which I hated doing - but the staff were helpful!
The hot water seemed to have ran out in the shower and i was forced to shower in cold water - this only happened once in the mid morning so it was possibly down to overload as a load of French tourists arrived who swamped the breakfast room and I presume they all used the showers at once.
The hair dryer wasn't working in room 202.
There was no Tea or coffee facilities in rooms - even though there was a decent mini fridge with a selection of drinks.
there were no problems with room 306!
All in all a fantastic experience, nothing like staying in such a perfect location, in a classic Ottoman hotel, with friendly staff, clean environs, and beautiful views.
We're planning another trip and we'd rather stay here than in any other larger and soulless hotel - if you wish for a more true Istanbulu experience, i can't think of anywhere else!

“Great staff, fantastic view”
Chicago, Illinois - TripAdvisor
We stayed here 6 nights and we extremely happy with our choice. Close to everything in Sultanahmet without being on the touristy strip. Breakfast was good and abundant (husband loved the yogurt and I loved the olives). Rooms were always clean and and quick to cool (quick & effective AC) for us after a day of exploring Istanbul.
Unlike the last post, we found the staff to be extremely friendly and responsive. We arrived at 3am (flight delays and cancellations) and a shuttle driver (free service) was waiting at the arrivals gate with our names on a sign and two staff members quickly checked us in and we were asleep within minutes of arriving.

“Definitely a great Hotel”
New Zealand
A great location (it practically backs onto the blue mosque and is close to many of Istanbuls key attractions), helpful and friendly staff, a good breakfast (breakfast on the rooftop terrace overlooking the sea is a great way to start the day), decent sized rooms (the aircon is also good and unlike many other hotel rooms the windows can be opened to air it out too) and free internet access (via both wifi and a PC in the lobby) made Tashkonak hotel a really great place to stay - I'll definitely be back again and have no hesitation reccomending it whatsoever...

Our stay at Tashkonak was very satisfactory. The rooms were not very soundproof, but the hotel is in a quiet street, so this was not too much of a hassle. Breakfast was lovely, however we were not able to get a seat in the dining room on one of the mornings - I am not sure how they would cope in peak season! Perhaps they are able to spread some more tables out further onto their balcony...? The hotel was very close to the Blue Mosque, and in short walking distance to the local restaurants, etc. All in all, we certainly enjoyed our stay and felt that Tashkonak was very good value for money.

Tash Konak hotel is very nice and conveniently placed for a visit of old Istanbul. The rooms are pleasantly decorated in the typical local style, a couple of square meters more wouldn't have hurt, but I think there are larger rooms available with a little surcharge. The hotel staff was very helpful on every occasion. All in all it was very good quality for the price paid.

After we arrived, they offered us tea and then sat down with us and a map of Istanbul, and pointed out all the big sights of interest, and recommended how to make the most of our brief stay. The location in perfect - very close to everything. We did pay for the larger room, and it was very spacious - tastefully decorated in a Victorian style with a nice seating area - sofa, chairs, coffee table. They comment is true about the minaret broadcasting the call to prayer right outside the window, but visiting a city with 3200 mosques during Ramadan, I'm not sure you could escape that no matter where you stayed. I can't say enough good things about the staff, and highly recommend this hotel.

The breakfast buffets were ample and delightfully presented in the rooftop dining and viewing area. The location of the hotel is perfect for those who want to be able to walk to the historical sites or get to public transportation easily. The service was good and they treated our group of 26 with courtesy and friendliness. The airport pickup was free and they arranged for our airport return perfectly. There is no elevator so you must be able to climb up to the 4th. floor for breakfast.

Very impressed that a hotel offered (and delivered so much) for the tariff. Extras like pickup from airport (at 2am) free internet connection, breakfast on rooftop terrace, etc all appreciated. Very obliging staff even at 2am when we arrived. Staff helped direct us to nearest ATMs etc, actually took us there. Would definitely stay here again. VENERE.COM

This hotel has the advantage of being located in the central area of Sultan Ahmet (5 minutes walk from the Blue Mosque) as well as being in a residential area, across from a small mosque. It allows the welcome experience of life in a neighbourhood. Also, there are some good little restaurants close to the hotel which makes it very practical to go out even late at night. The staff is friendly, helpful and competent, at all levels. Although, from what I gathered, the staff members are employees of the hotel, they all display the type of care that you normally experience in a family-owned hotel. The room I had was quite adequate in size and, most important, it was clean. I stayed for 11 days. I specially recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to get slightly out of the beaten track.

This hotel is fantastic. We arrived at the station after catching the overnight train from Thessaloniki, Greece and the driver had to ask for a few directions but once there we were definitely in the right place. It is located behind the Blue Mosque and within easy walking distance of all the main attractions. The staff here were fantastic and bent over backwards to help. There was a very reasonable buffet breakfast on the rooftop each morning and an added bonus of wireless internet in the hotel (we had our own laptop and were able to access the net free of charge) I cannot recommend this hotel more highly for its location, the staff, the clean rooms just about everything. Thank you all for a wonderful stay.

MYSTERIOUS Istanbul-where two cultures combine to offer acıty rich in history, complex in mood, and thrusting with excitement : and when you're there-there is only one place to stay.
Snug in the heart of the exotic Sultanahmet District of the city, cheek by jowl with the major ''must sees'' of the Aghia Sophia, the Topkapi Palace, the Blue Mosque and the Grand Bazaar-all of them walkable within minutes-hides the Tashkonak Hotel-an old fashioned, simple, but immensely welcoming hotel, where good service is offered, and wise counsel given about how to make the most and the best out of whatever time you have in the intriguing city of Istanbul.
Breakfast at the rooftop restaurant overlooking the Bosphorus, boats butting their way to the Black Sea-is a wonderful introduction to the bustling city-above it, and yet in the heart of it: while the call to prayer echoes from the minarets around you-and you know this is somewhere special - and a place that might be frightening in its uniqueness, its differentness.
But at the Tashkonak you are in the save hands of Savas and Erdinc, the two main players, who will advise you where to go, how to avoid being ripped off at the Grand Bazaar, and where you can eat well at a ridiculously cheap price. LIFE & WORK
