In 1999, three friends decided to get together and take over the management of a small hotel in the heart of Sultanahmet, the historical area of Turkey’s most famous city of Istanbul.
The hotel that we chose was the Tashkonak, an old 19th century Ottoman mansion that had been converted from two old stone (Tas) houses.
We wanted to offer visitors to Istanbul somewhere to stay that was different from the other hotels and hostels in the area.
We wanted our guests to experience a real Turkish family atmosphere, together with genuine Turkish hospitality.
All our guests are very important to us.
In fact, they are more than just hotel guests.
They become our friends and are part of an extended family, the Tashkonak family.
We have come a long way since our the start of our partnership, growing from strength to strength, building a reputation that makes the Tashkonak Hotel one of the most popular small hotels in Istanbul and Sultanahmet.
With the demand for traditional hotel accommodation in the Sultanahmet area growing rapidly together with Istanbul as a popular tourist destination, in 2009, we opened a small suite hotel on a nearby site, Tashkonak Suites, providing an alternative type of accommodation to the Tashkonak.
In 2011, we added another small luxury hotel, the Sultans Royal Hotel, to the growing Tashkonak family of hotels. This new hotel tastefully blends together the ancient and the modern styles, with rooms that are larger than the normal standard size rooms provided by other hotels, therefore catering for guests who prefer more spacious accommodation.
